A dental crown is a valuable tool for preserving a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay or injury. While the primary purpose of a dental crown is to restore a tooth’s structural integrity, we understand and appreciate that our patients also want to make their smiles look as good as new.
Rest assured that we create dental crowns that blend in with the rest of your smile. We are tremendously detail-oriented in gathering all of the data needed to design a crown with a lifelike aesthetic that will seamlessly blend in with the rest of your smile.
How Your Dentist Designs Your Crowns
The path to getting a dental crown begins with an evaluation at our office. At that evaluation, the dentist will visually examine your smile and may take:
- Measurements
- Photos
- X-rays
- Dental impressions
This information all provides a solid framework for the ultimate design of your dental crown. We determine the specifications for the crown, and that data is then transmitted to the dental laboratory that is tasked with crafting your dental crown.
How Custom-designed Crowns Preserve Your Smile’s Aesthetics
Using the patient’s unique specifications as the foundation for the design of a dental crown produces a restoration that is aesthetically aligned with the rest of the smile in terms of:
- Shape
- Shade
- Size
Modern dental crowns are made of state-of-the-art materials that are nearly indistinguishable from biological tooth enamel. Therefore, the end result is a natural-looking restored tooth that blends in with its neighbors.
What To Expect From The Dental Crown Treatment Process
In addition to collecting the information described above at your initial evaluation, your dentist will also remove some of the enamel from your tooth in order to make room for the crown. You can be fitted with a temporary crown to wear in the interim while awaiting the permanent restoration.
It usually takes a couple of weeks for the dental lab to create the crown. When it is ready, you will return to our office to have the crown placed. We can make further adjustments to it in our office, if needed, but be sure that you are satisfied with the final product, as it cannot be altered after it is placed.
